Affable, driven, and most importantly, fashionable--
Jace Lipstein is on his way to becoming one of the most influential people in men's fashion. When he’s not busy jet setting to Europe to cover Milan Fashion Week, the sartorial expert is sharing the latest in men’s fashion on his website, the Grungy Gentleman.
Lipstein’s first encounter with the fashion industry was all do to chance, and is actually quite comical.
“It was my birthday and my buddy was throwing an all black everything party for me. I had a black Band of Outsiders tie and a black blazer, and I was trying to find a gingham shirt to pair it with. So, I walk up to a guy at Barney’s, and ask him if they have a black & white gingham shirt in the store.” The man who he was addressing replied, “Excuse me, I don’t work for the store. I work for a clothing line.” Soon to find out, he worked for Band of Outsiders and introduced Lipstein to one of the designers.
Thus far in his career, Jace has met and worked with some major players within the fashion industry.
“Nick Wooster has always been a gentleman to me, he’s one of the biggest style icons in the world, and he’s been super influential. Michael Bastian, he’s been super cool. And, Billy Reid, I produced one of my first videos ever with him right before he won his CFDA Award… He’s the man!”
In addition to running his website, Lipstein has the opportunity to work along side with one of his many mentors, Milan Vukmirovic. “He’s [Vukmirovic] one of the biggest photographers in the world. He shoots campaigns for Neil Barrett, Dior, Givenchy… He also was the editor-in-chief of L'Officiel Hommes out of Paris. Now, he has started his own magazine calledFashion for Men. It’s a 600 page publication that comes out twice a year, and I’m an editor on that.”
It’s completely evident that Lipstein loves his work and those he has the pleasure of meeting through his travels. What drives him to accomplish all that he does?
“My friends really inspire me the most,” he proudly shares.
Before we ended our interview, the Grungy Gentleman was gracious enough to lend a piece of fashion advice. “A staple every man should own is well-fitted navy blazer, because it’s so versatile. You can pair it with a t-shirt, or dress it up if needed.”
With his blend of ambition, talent and poise, I’d say Jace is paving his way to becoming a fashion industry powerhouse.
